BREEN VICTOR AT BALLINA STUDBOOK FINAL

AFTER a successful week at Hickstead last month, Tipperary's Trevor Breen came to Ballina Show in Mayo and showed a touch of his Speed Derby magic when he won the 6/7 year Old HSI Studbook Final with Ringwood Construction's bay mare 'Coppindell'.

Despite his best efforts, runner-up Jimmy McCloskey was unable to stop the clock any better than three seconds off Breen's pace with Brian Doherty's 'Ben Mullier' in the seven horse jump-off.

The qualifiers took place at Ballina on Friday with the top combinations in both the 5 and 6/7 Year-Old competitions making it through to Sunday's finals. Horse Sport Ireland had a prize fund of €10,000 on offer for these young horse classes.

The Grand Final of the series will take place at Tattersalls in Co. Meath in two weeks' time.
