EVENTING-THREE TOP TENS FOR IRELAND AT BARBURY THREE STAR

THE TRANSFORMATION in Ireland's Eventing fortunes continued today (Sunday) at the three-star event in Barbury Castle, England, with three Irish riders finishing in the top ten on Irish- bred horses from a starting field of 120 of the world's best riders.

The Irish riders were led home by Tipperary's Sam Watson in third on 'Horseware Bushman' and 2009 Tattersalls winner Trish Ryan in fourth place with 'Fernhill Clover Mist'.

Elizabeth Power finished 10th on her second horse 'Doonaveragh O One', having led overnight with her first horse 'Kilpatrick River'.

Speaking from Barbury this evening Horse Sport Ireland High Performance Coach Ginny Elliott said : "This was a tremendous weekend for the Irish squad. I think the whole team is working very well together now - riders, coaches and management, and the results are certainly showing this.

"Sam Watson made a remarkable improvement today. He had a good result at Badminton but was not in the top ten, and he has jumped ahead today to lead the Irish field. Trish Ryan is giving very consistent performances, and her fourth place today was part of that pattern. Liz Power's young horse was in its first three-star at Barbury and to finish tenth is a real achievement. The other Irish performances today were also good, and this is part of the overall solid picture of what's happening to Irish Eventing.

"Much credit also has to be given to coaches Michael Quirke and Ferdi Eilberg for these results today," she said.
