IRELAND FINISHES SEVENTH IN CALGARY NATIONS' CUP

Despite a classy clear round from Cian O'Connor and 'Rancorrado' and a single time fault from Co. Down's Dermott Lennon with 'Hallmark Elite', Ireland did not make the second round of the Canadian Nations' Cup in Calgary tonight (Saturday).


Lying equal seventh at the break, the team failed to qualify for the top six who go through to the final.

A 16-fault tally from Shane Breen and 'Carmena Z' and an unfortunate nine faults from 'Southwind VDL' piloted by Mayo's Cameron Hanley left the Irish one point adrift of home team Canada, who squeezed through to the second round on nine faults.

Tomorrow's million-dollar Grand Prix will give the three qualified individual Irish riders - O'Connor, Lennon and Hanley - another chance to make the trip worthwhile.

In 2008, the Irish team also finished seventh in the Canadian Nations' Cup.
